Dr. Marinko Sarunic is a post-doctoral researcher in the biophotonics group. He received a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics from Simon Fraser University in 1998, and continued on at SFU with graduate school. The topic of his M.A.Sc. thesis, completed in October of 2001, was “BiIn: A Prototype Bimetallic Laser Activated Thermal Resist for Microfabrication”. While completing his thesis work, Marinko joined JDS Uniphase from Jan '01 to July '02 to develop MEMS based components for optical networks. Marinko left JDS to pursue a Ph.D. from Duke University under the direction of Dr. Joseph Izatt. The title of Marinko’s doctoral dissertation was “Advanced systems design for Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (FD OCT) systems”. His research at Duke included development of a second harmonic spectral domain OCT system, and phase processing algorithms to extend the imaging depth of FDOCT systems to accommodate the ocular anterior segment. At CalTech, Marinko’s interests include the development of a forward image endoscopic probe for use during ophthalmic surgery.

Marinko left CalTech in September 2006 to join the engineering faculty at his alma mater, Simon Fraser University, located in Vancouver, Canada. His new lab webpage is http://BORG.ensc.sfu.ca
